Daniel Fred: Hey, I want to welcome you to CASAT conversations, a brand new podcast and we’ll be talking about all kinds of things and this first season, I guarantee you it’s gonna be incredible Before we get into us and the podcast.
Why don’t we tell you a little about CASAT, Heather?
Heather Haslem: Thanks Daniel CASAT is a national leader for helping states organization students and the workforce learn and apply research based practices within behavioral health as well as the substance use prevention and treatment community.
We are located at the University of Nevada, Reno and within each episode we’re going to explore the complex connection between our environment, our behaviors and our actions impact our health and well being.
You will hear meaningful conversations with clinicians, researchers and people with lived experience sharing evidence based strategies, tips and tools to help impact your life and work as you listen to each episode, we really hope that you were able to take whatever pieces of the conversation are relevant to you and your life and put them into practice.
In our first season we will be exploring the stressors that first responder families face and evidence based strategies for mitigating stress in their life.
I am your host, Heather Haslem.
I’m really happy to be here with you and I’m excited to introduce you all to Daniel Fred my co host on this adventure, Daniel, tell us about yourself.
Daniel Fred: Hey, I’m Daniel and I work at the University of Nevada Reno.
I’m a person in long term recovery and really excited about this topic, excited to be a part of this first season excited for what’s in store.
I love CASAT and I love that we’re putting this out and just excited to hear from all sides the experts and the families and we don’t get to hear from families a lot.
In first responders, we focus on first responders, which is important and we should very rarely do we get to talk about families.
And so I’m super excited about that.
What about you heather?
What are some things that you’re excited about for this first season?
Heather Haslem: You know, Daniel, I’m really looking forward to hearing about people’s lived experiences so that we can normalize what it’s like to be a family member of a first responder normalize the stressors um and even raise awareness about what it’s like and the increased amount of stressors that a person faces um for the first responder families.
And so I’m I’m just really excited to talk with the families.
Daniel Fred: Yeah, same.
I love hearing people’s stories and I got to be honest, exploration in this topic for me is very limited.
So I feel like I’m coming to this with just like an open book like wide, I like excited to take it all in.
Um and so just really to to hear…Um I think the thing I’m most interested to is is really to hear about trauma and how to help people deal with trauma because we talk about it in our work so often.
Um but it’s just a different, a different way to experience trauma kind of vicariously and on a regular basis.
And how do they, how do people carry it?
And how to families carry it?
And so I’m really excited for just to learn a little bit more and get a peek into maybe what what the life of a family member is like.
Heather Haslem: Me too in thinking about preparing for this podcast.
I have thought a lot about the amount of trauma that first responders face on a daily basis.
And so to be able to bring resources to first responders and their families.
Um I’m just I really hope that what we bring to this people can take home and practices in their own life.
Daniel Fred: Absolutely and I think, I mean kudos to the team at CASAT because Dr. Trudy is phenomenal and she’s going to bring some stuff and I know the some really good content and I know the families we talked to.
I mean just hearing people’s stories is going to be phenomenal.
And so I just I’m excited for this first season.
I hope those of you that are listening, enjoy it as much as I know we have enjoyed putting this together.
Um and putting it out and shout out to to Jeanyne who is behind the controls and you may not get to hear from during the season but she is instrumental um to putting this on and then the whole team at CASAT as well.
Heather Haslem: Mm hmm. Yeah, huge shout out for the team for putting this together.
And um for anyone listening, we really would love your feedback.
Um in how you know the stories have impacted you.
Um anything that you found helpful or ways that we can make this podcast better in the future because we really do want this to be a resource um for you.
So we welcome your feedback
Daniel Fred: And so on that note, Sit back, enjoy um and let us know anything or any topics you want to hear in the future.
