The National American Indian and Alaska Native Childhood Trauma TSA, Category II, has developed a resource for caregivers to help them talk with Native children about current events:
- Positive Talks: How Caregivers Can Talk with Their AI/AN Child About Current Events and the Impacts They Can Have on Them
- The National Child Traumatic Stress Network has several resources for parents, caregivers, and others to help children cope after school shootings and other mass violence events:
- Parent Guidelines for Helping Youth after the Recent Shooting – This fact sheet describes common reactions children may have, how parents can help them, and self-care tips after an event.
- Age-Related Reactions to Traumatic Events – Describes how young children, school-age children, and adolescents react to traumatic events and offers suggestions on how parents and caregivers can help and support them.
- Coping After Mass Violence – This fact sheet provides common reactions children and families may be experiencing after a mass violence event, as well as what they can do to take care of themselves.
- The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is an excellent resource for people experiencing a mental health crisis. WeRNative also offers a Native crisis line; just text NATIVE to 741741.
