Substance Abuse Counselor 2

Nevada Department of Corrections | Las Vegas, Boulder City, Indian Springs, Jean, Henderson, Nevada

Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is based at Southern Desert Correctional Center (SDCC) in Indian Springs, NV. The SAC2 staff provides direct clinical work for adults incarcerated in a prison setting. Services include but are not limited to: intakes/assessments, development of individualized treatment plans, group facilitation, individual counseling, and oversight of therapeutic community activities. Incumbents perform professional duties in assessment, case management, education, and treatment of incarcerated offenders.
Duties include performing initial intake of offenders; conducting individualized and group counseling sessions; planning, developing, and conducting alcohol and drug cessation classes; providing instruction in areas of stress management, values clarification, self-esteem, career guidance, and other related areas. The incumbent will utilize video aids, role playing, group discussions, written exercises, testing, and homework assignments; and will meet with offenders individually as clinically indicated by the offender’s progress or treatment issues. The incumbent will write concise, logical, analytical reports assessing the progress of individuals enrolled in the program and make oral group presentations during group counseling.

The SAC1 staff provides direct clinical work for adults incarcerated. Specialty Courts Case Manager

Sixth Judicial District Court | Winnemucca, Nevada
This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect case management services to Sixth Judicial District Specialty Court participants. The responsibilities of this position include conducting individual case management sessions with participants, documenting activities, connecting participants with community resources, as well as other duties to support the program functioning. Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility, such as data entry, statistics, grants, preparation of reports, etc. Reports to the Specialty Courts Coordinator.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

The UNLV International Gaming Institute (IGI) is partnering with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health to evaluate a statewide initiative aimed at improving recovery outcomes for people with opioid and stimulant use disorders. The project focuses on implementing evidence-based strategies that address co-occurring gambling and substance use. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join the Gambling Resources and Support Program (GRASP) evaluation team. This position offers hands-on experience in applied public health research and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that reduces the harms of gambling and substance use while strengthening recovery supports across Nevada.

Mental Health Counselor II

Under supervision, this position performs mental health interventions using a strengths-based approach to support individuals in crisis and those within severely mentally ill populations. The role includes conducting personalized and comprehensive assessments, determining the appropriate level of intervention, and connecting individuals to essential community resources.

Northern Regional Behavioral Health Coordinator (Northern RBHC)

NPHF is seeking an individual who will coordinate and promote the activities of the Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board. This legislatively established board is made up of community leaders, law enforcement, healthcare and treatment providers, family and peer advocates, a legislative representative, and others who are interested in identifying and planning for the behavioral health needs within the region. The focus of activities is based in Carson City and the counties of Douglas, Churchill, Lyon, and Storey. Collaboration in statewide efforts may also occur. Minimally, the coordinator offers technical assistance to the board through the provision of strategic planning guidance, regional training and educational presentations, data analysis, assistance with the authoring of an annual report, and legislative bill draft development. The coordinator plans and hosts regular board meetings (online) in collaboration with the chair. Recurrent travel within the Northern Region and statewide is required.

Coordinator, Community Based Recovery Programs

The Program Coordinator provides comprehensive administrative oversight and support for program operations, including coordinating events, managing documentation, maintaining databases, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. They will develop, plan, implement, and manage health and nutrition-related programming and activities in community-based recovery settings where individuals attend treatment, education, and programming for substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health services to facilitate a healthy, sustainable recovery and reduce recidivism. The coordinator will connect and collaborate with external organizations (e.g., Vegas Stronger, Recovery Friendly Workplaces, Westcare, Foundation for Recovery etc.), SUD treatment providers both in-patient and outpatient, alternative sentencing programs, mental health facilities and hospitals, transitional housing and group homes, alternative schools, etc. to identify needs and provide programming and resources and to engage clients in healthy, sustainable recovery practices.
