The Power of Prevention: How to Leverage National Prevention Week (NPW) for Effective Community Prevention Strategies

This 60-minute webinar (in collaboration with the Prevention Technology Transfer Network (PTTC) will focus on how communities can actualize the goals of NPW to strengthen their community prevention efforts. The webinar will demonstrate the benefits of getting involved with NPW by unveiling new tools and resources relevant to the NPW five daily themes and how building relationships with collaborative organizations can be an effective strategy for prevention success.

Specifically, this webinar will be constructed in three segments. The first segment will begin with a welcome and introduction from the CSAP Director, then shift to the history and purpose of NPW. The second segment will highlight two diverse evidenced-based programs/grantees from across the country, in addition to the release of new SAMHSA products (including the new app for the SAMHSA’s Talk. They Hear You. underage drinking campaign). The third segment will end with a closing message from the Acting Assistant Secretary, Tom Coderre who will then unveil the “Youth Leading Prevention” challenge video which will demonstrate prevention in action across the country.

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to recognize and utilize new tools for their work in communities; describe the value of partnerships in amplifying their prevention efforts while leveraging federal health observances; and learn about real-life examples for developing a partner collaborative strategy with organizations in their communities.
