More than 200,000 lung cancers will be diagnosed in 2020. For many years, we have fought a losing battle in our efforts to prevent lung cancer deaths, especially for individuals who smoke or who have formerly smoked. With lung cancer, early detection is key for survival. Join Dr. Chung as he discusses lung cancer burden, risk factors, screening recommendations and the future of biomarkers in the treatment of lung cancer.

About the Speakers: Arnold D. Chung, MD

Dr. Arnold D. Chung is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon practicing with MountainView Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Associates. Dr. Chung is the only fellowship-trained and robotic-trained thoracic surgeon in Las Vegas.

Dr. Chung also was the first CVT surgeon in Las Vegas to perform a wedge resection and lobetcomy utilizing the da Vinci Si robotic system. Dr. Chung also oversees MountainView’s Lung Cancer Screening Program for high-risk individuals to detect lung cancer earlier, allowing early intervention for patients.

Originally from Seven Hills, Ohio, Dr. Chung completed a seven-year combined Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine program at Boston University and the Boston University School of Medicine, graduating in 2002. He then underwent training in general surgery at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont.

It was during this time that his interest in cardiothoracic surgery led him to further his education at the University of North Carolina, a fully accredited, three-year program in cardiothoracic surgery. Following that training, Dr. Chung undertook a one-year fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for minimally invasive techniques in regards to lung cancer. Under the supervision of Drs. Robert McKenna, Clark Fuller, Ali Mahtabifard and Harmik Soukiasian, Dr. Chung developed the skills necessary to surgically treat the most challenging thoracic pathologies.

Upon completion of his training, Dr. Chung moved to Las Vegas and joined MountainView Hospital Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Associates as a CVT surgeon. He is grateful for the opportunity to bring his expertise and experience to Southern Nevada.
