Opening the Door: Believe Our Truth
Training Overview:
Join the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) in our efforts to increase awareness of abuse against adolescents and young adults with disabilities. This popular presentation will give attendees a basic understanding of disabilities and how adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities are targeted for abuse. Appropriate intervention strategies will be shared to improve communication between the survivor and the advocate. In addition, tips will be offered to help the individual’s support person or caregiver understand the effects and consequences of trauma. Best practices will be highlighted to ensure people with developmental disabilities are receiving survivor-centered, trauma-informed assistance that promotes healing.
