This one-day in-person workshop, Using Motivational Interviewing in Clinical Supervision, is designed to introduce supervisors to integrating the spirit and skills of motivational interviewing within the context of working with interns.  Throughout the workshop, Supervisors will practice building and maintaining a collaborative and strong supervisory working alliance while promoting high standards of counselor skills. Additionally, Supervisors will gain an understanding of basic proficiency standards for micro-skills based on research and a brief introduction to coding to provide data-based/coded feedback to interns.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, supervisors will have gained at least three MI-consistent skills for providing feedback to interns:

  1. Deliver advice in ways that reduce intern defensiveness,
  2. Support intern autonomy when setting a requirement, and
  3. Ability to give interns an opportunity to integrate and understand feedback as well as develop skills in titrated practice.

Please Note: Prior Motivational Interviewing experience is not required, but supervisors will benefit from this workshop most if they have basic and advanced MI training working with clients.
